This is meant to be a listing of programming competitions and challenges, especially covering those which allow C/C++ and/or Allegro, and which focus on game programming. Links should be provided whenever possible, as well as a short description of what is or was involved.

Currently/soon open to participation

Competitions and/or challenges that will begin in the near future or are currently running.

Speedhacks

A popular genre of competition in which one is given a short time (typically two or three days) to create a game from minimal components which follows a ruleset and/or theme which is usually (at least partially) generated at the competition start. Among these are:

Tiny source

Challenges that restrict source code with size requirements, and focus on ingenuity in the design of the code itself as much as on the actual game it produces.

Genre specific

Team

  • http://www.remakes.org/ hosts yearly 3-month competitions. Apparantly there are no plans for future Remakes competitions.

Awards ceremonies

  • The AAA, annual allegro awards, was meant to fill this place but is somewhat deceased at the moment
