Recategorization of the Allegro Wiki

At the time of writing (CGamesPlay 15:11, August 2, 2007 (UTC)), the Allegro Wiki is categorized like this:

  • Allegro Wiki
    • Allegro
      • Allegro Hack Day
      • Allegro Competitions
        • Speedhack
      • Allegro Developers
      • Allegro tutorials
      • AllegroGL tutorials
    • AllegroGL
      • AllegroGL tutorials
    • Architectures
    • Articles about graphics
      • Articles by graphics dimensions
        • 2D graphics
    • IRC
      • IRC Logs
    • OpenGL
      • OpenGL tutorials
    • Tutorials
      • Allegro tutorials
      • OpenGL tutorials
    • Websites
      • Allegro.cc
    • Manual of Style
    • Pixelate
    • Redirects
    • Templates
    • Vfd

The categories have been created in a disorganized manner as the wiki grew from 0 pages, however it's time that we stepped back and examined our taxonomy to neaten it. I am making the following changes to the category system:

  • Rename Category:Allegro Wiki to Category:Categories - this mirrors the Wikipedia scheme.
  • Move Category:Manual of Style, Category:Redirects, Category:Templates, and Category:Vfd into Category:Wiki - Chunks "implementation-related" categories together.
  • Remove categories Category:Articles about graphics, Category:Articles by graphics dimension, and Category:2D graphics - These are far too specific for the wiki in its current state. When the wiki reaches a point that it needs this level of specification, we can add it then.
  • Remove article HomePages - This sort of page is inappropriate, and the individual links can be placed on the user's pages.
  • Remove Category:Websites - This does not merit its own category.
  • Create Category:Community, adding Category:Allegro.cc and Category:IRC Logs - This chunks community-related topics together, not differentiating based on medium.
  • Remove Category:IRC - These articles would be better-suited in Category:Community.
  • Remove Category:Allegro Developers and Shawn Hargereaves - Nothing against Shawn, but until someone writes a proper article about him, we don't need the line-long summary.
  • Remove Category:Speedhack - This does not merit its own category.
  • Add Category:Allegro development - All of the NewAPI articles fit into here.
  • Remove Category:Architectures - These articles are better suited in Category:Allegro development
  • Remove Category:OpenGL - The only article in this category is an AllegroGL article.
  • Remove Category:Tutorials - All tutorials are in Category:Allegro tutorials

After these changes, the Allegro Wiki will be categorized like this:

  • Categories
    • Articles
      • Allegro
        • Allegro competitions
        • Allegro development
          • Allegro Hack Day
